Olfactory Lens · Episode 01
Try Me, Me Try.
Try. Nineteen first times.
01 · Opening
The first episode of Olfactory Lens. Nineteen Penta observations passing through the theme of "first times".
If this were a book, each fragrance would be the storyteller of its own journey. Each fragrance a character. Each character carrying a slice of life, told in four stages: entering life, stumbling, acceptance, growing.
02 · Concept · Try
Try is when you step into life for the first time with trembling feet, but your eyes are still full of curiosity.
It's when you're not sure if you're right, but you do it anyway — because you don't want to miss anything.
It's when you stumble, but don't see it as the end. It's when you stand back up, knowing you have changed.
03 · Observations · Nineteen observations
Nineteen observations passing through "Try".
Observation 01
Penta · No. 1
Water Jasmine
Mai Chiếu Thuỷ
The first time touching life,
Confused – uncertain,
Only... oneself leading oneself.
01 Entering life
Being trusted makes you grow a little bit more.
The first time you realize you’re not just present,
but actually counted in.
02 Stumble
There are tasks left undone. There are things forgotten to check.
There are moments you think you’re doing well —
but in reality, you’ve just made everything messier.
03 Acceptance
Being chosen doesn’t mean you’re already good enough —
it means someone believes you can grow.
04 Growing
That position… no longer feels too big for me.
Because with each step, each time I strained — then broke — then stood up,
I’ve become just right for the place I’m in.
Observation 02
Penta · No. 2
Oolong Tea
Trà Ô Long
Not working like a task,
but a new chapter unfolding.
01 Entering life
No one says anything,
but inside, suddenly, something feels different —
like a new chapter just began,
and I’m writing the first line.
Even if it’s just a small step,
it’s enough to feel... I’ve grown.
02 Stumble
Not always being praised.
Not everyone gently guides you.
There are times when I feel clumsy.
There are times I just want to escape to the bathroom to breathe.
03 Acceptance
It’s not a place to be comforted —
it’s a place where I learn to grow stronger, little by little.
No one is great from the first day.
What matters is staying,
and never stopping trying.
04 Growing
Still keeping the pink —
but now with a hint of gray,
to make it more real.
And more enduring.
It’s not about stopping dreaming,
but knowing how to carry those dreams…
without letting reality break them.
Observation 03
Penta · No. 3
Angelica
Bách Chỉ
A strange blanket,
A strange room,
The unfamiliar scent of the pillow.
01 Entering life
Lying down in a place that’s not mine.
The gaze beside me — quiet, close.
No words, but my heart beats strangely fast.
02 Stumble
Nothing is certain. No promises.
03 Acceptance
But there was one night, I was truly myself.
One night, unguarded.
One night, at peace amidst the unfamiliar.
04 Growing
A strange blanket,
A strange room,
The unfamiliar scent of the pillow.
Leaving no soul on the pillow.
Not sending my heart into the gaze at midnight.
Observation 04
Penta · No. 4
Whiskey
Rượu Whiskey
No one teaches us how to drink.
No one warns that it makes us dizzy.
01 Entering life
The first time drinking isn’t to find the taste.
It’s just an excuse —
to sit down.
To not have to laugh too much.
To sigh without being asked, Are you okay?
To let go of the things I’m still trying to hold on to.
02 Stumble
It’s just...
some loneliness can’t be spoken.
So we let the alcohol speak for us.
03 Acceptance
Pour a little more quietly into the glass.
Not to forget anyone, nor to remember.
04 Growing
Later, I still drink — but not to forget anything,
but to remember: the times I was weak,
and the times I overcame.
Observation 05
Penta · No. 5
Hojicha
Trà Hojicha
Waiting forever with no reply,
starting to worry, then continuing to wait.
01 Entering life
At first, worry –
Then, waiting –
Finally, silence –
because I’ve learned:
there are silences not caused by mistakes,
but by intention.
02 Stumble
No words.
No reason.
Just... disappearing.
Light as if it had never existed.
Sometimes, it’s not being left behind –
but not being told what you were ever meant to be.
03 Acceptance
Some people come…
not to love long, not to stay,
but to teach you an old lesson –
don’t hold on.
Don’t wait anymore.
Because in the end…
silence is also a form of rejection.
04 Growing
But if I happen to love –
I love truly.
The difference is…
now I know how to stop when I start to hurt myself.
I know how to turn away at the right moment,
not because I’ve stopped loving,
but because I’ve learned how to love myself more.
Observation 06
Penta · No. 6
Tobacco
Thuốc Lá
Never the one to step forward.
01 Entering life
Used to being looked at.
Used to receiving messages starting from the other side.
But...
never knew the feeling of being the one to step forward.
Never learned how to pursue someone.
02 Stumble
The first time loving wasn’t because of the look they gave me,
but because my eyes lingered on them.
The first time taking the initiative to love someone,
and the first time… being left behind.
Turns out, loving truly doesn’t mean being kept.
03 Acceptance
Attraction is instinct.
It’s the way I present myself –
not forced, not trying,
and not hiding myself for temporary pleasures.
Because from now on, I’ll only stay where I’m allowed to shine just as I am.
04 Growing
Still that same gaze,
still that same voice –
gentle but enough to make others look back.
Those who are brave enough to stay – will know when to stop.
Not grabbing hold of anyone,
but finding peace when I no longer need to hold on.
Observation 07
Penta · No. 7
White Tea
Trà Trắng
Just one look.
01 Entering life
Our eyes meet.
Something in my chest skips a beat.
It’s just…
a part of me has gently leaned toward someone else,
without being prepared.
02 Stumble
Don’t take it too seriously… it’s just fun.
03 Acceptance
Some people don’t come to stay.
They just pass through —
to teach us a quiet lesson:
not everyone deserves the most whole part of our heart.
04 Growing
It’s not because I’m afraid to love.
But because I know — I deserve to keep a part of me gentle,
whole, and untouchable by anyone who would harm it.
So that if there is pain…
it doesn’t break everything.
Observation 08
Penta · No. 8
Wood Sage
Xô Thơm
Not because there’s nothing to say.
But because...
01 Entering life
Afraid that I won’t say it right,
afraid of how people will look at me,
afraid of disrupting the rhythm of a conversation that’s already moving too fast.
02 Stumble
I know something’s wrong — but I don’t speak.
I only smile —
because I can’t explain the feeling of being afraid to disturb, afraid to be wrong, afraid of being seen differently.
03 Acceptance
It’s just... learning to speak when it’s truly necessary.
A small thought. A unique perspective.
Not to be praised,
but so that I don’t regret the silence after every unspoken word...
04 Growing
Every time I speak —
it’s after I’ve listened enough.
It’s knowing that what I say doesn’t need to be loud,
just needs to carry weight.
My voice matters as much as anyone else’s —
and I deserve to be heard.
Observation 09
Penta · No. 9
Orange Pu'er Tea
Trà Phổ Nhĩ Cam
Not aiming to stand out.
Not trying to be different.
01 Entering life
It’s just…
there are roads that look wrong at first,
but once you step onto them, you realize they fit you.
No matter how far you go, you must stay true to yourself.
02 Stumble
Not trying to draw attention.
Not trying to be different.
But then there are moments lying down, eyes on the ceiling,
and asking yourself:
“Have I gone too far?”
03 Acceptance
There were moments of confusion,
moments of swaying just because of a few sideways glances.
But if I had to trade myself to be accepted,
then perhaps…
silence is worth more than applause in the wrong place.
04 Growing
There’s no mold that fits me.
Everything I’m living, doing, creating…
doesn’t have to be “the same” to be called right.
Growing up is when you dare to keep your difference
as a language of your own –
even if no one speaks it,
you can still hear your own voice clearly.
Observation 10
Penta · No. 10
White Fuyo
Phù Dung Trắng
One day, standing in front of the mirror,
the reflection looks back… and feels like a stranger.
01 Entering life
It’s not quite tired.
Not exactly sad.
It’s just…
a part of me that I once thought was solid,
suddenly swaying, and I don’t know where to hold on.
02 Stumble
Everything once seemed certain.
Clear, like a formula.
Until one day, everything tangled.
People ask.
And I…
don’t know how to answer.
Not because I know nothing.
But because…
for the first time, I see the distance between myself and confidence
so vast.
03 Acceptance
No one is strong forever.
No one is steady enough to never falter.
There are days when even I don’t understand what I want.
04 Growing
After the moments of instability,
I start learning to slow down — not to hide, but to listen.
To listen to myself,
even in the most unclear moments.
Observation 11
Penta · No. 11
Oakmoss
Rêu Sồi
Being alone isn’t scary —
if you learn how to become someone you can live with for a lifetime.
01 Entering life
An empty room, a balcony overlooking the wide sky.
No one reminds you to eat.
No one calls to wake you up in the morning.
No one asks: Where have you been so late?
02 Stumble
On many days when I was sick, I rode my bike to buy medicine,
curled up in bed, and asked myself:
If someone were here, it might be different.
And for the first time, I realized…
freedom comes with a price —
you have to learn to be strong even when you're at your weakest.
03 Acceptance
No longer rushing to find someone to talk to,
and no longer resenting the silence in the house.
Because gradually,
I’ve grown used to being alone doesn’t mean being lonely.
And then I understood —
some silences aren’t meant to be filled,
but to help you settle into yourself.
04 Growing
Now, the days spent alone have become
a breath of space — to reorganize my heart.
Because I understand —
when you learn how to be alone,
that’s when you’re ready to be with someone else
without losing yourself.
Observation 12
Penta · No. 12
Genmaicha
Trà Genmaicha
In a crowd, always choosing to sit in the back corner.
01 Entering life
People speak fast, laugh loud, and bond easily.
But me… I still haven’t found my way in.
But it’s okay.
Because inside, there’s a world big enough to talk to myself all day.
02 Stumble
That private world, once so peaceful,
became cramped like a place to hide —
no longer a place to live.
03 Acceptance
There were times I thought: “Maybe I should change?”
But then I realized —
some people are not born to fit into the crowd.
I don’t need to be loud.
I just need to not lose myself while trying to fit in.
04 Growing
You need to blend into the crowd to survive.
But you only need to exist in the right way to not lose yourself.
Some people are born to be a soft background noise,
not loud, not chaotic, but deep enough to make others pause and listen when they touch it.
Observation 13
Penta · No. 13
Water Moss
Tảo Nước
Silence, and everything will pass.
Calm from the very beginning.
01 Entering life
Everyone speaks up. Everyone wants to be right.
Only I remain silent.
A few noisy storms will settle on their own if I don’t stir them further.
02 Stumble
Saying nothing, probably means not caring.
Not everyone has the patience to listen to someone who stays quiet.
03 Acceptance
Silence is the only way to keep things from falling apart further.
Silence is not for everyone.
04 Growing
No longer silent to avoid,
but to wait for the right moment to speak.
Standing still, without being swept away.
Observation 14
Penta · No. 14
Black Tea
Trà Đen
Being there at the right moment, in the right way —
is also a form of love that runs very deep.
01 Entering life
I don’t really know what to do,
except sit there, quietly… like a place of support.
Being present at the right time — sometimes, that matters more than any comforting words.
02 Stumble
Sitting beside them, in silence.
Thinking that’s enough.
03 Acceptance
Everyone has their own language of hurt.
Learning to speak up,
not to fix things,
but so the other person knows they’re not alone.
04 Growing
Love isn’t measured by words,
but by the presence at the right moment,
in the way the other person needs.
Observation 15
Penta · No. 15
White Musk
Xạ Hương Trắng
Love doesn’t need to be seen.
01 Entering life
Presenting itself like a silhouette —
no need for spotlight, just the steady presence ahead.
Standing last, yet never standing outside.
02 Stumble
Suddenly, I find myself so silent
that I almost forget what I’ve done.
The first time my heart felt heavy,
just from a subtle forgetting —
that hurts for a long time.
03 Acceptance
Looking back at myself in silence,
standing behind,
but not small.
Just being there —
is enough.
04 Growing
Warmth doesn’t need noise to spread.
Some people are like a candle —
not dazzling, but enough to light up the whole room.
Observation 16
Penta · No. 16
Goji Berry
Kỷ Tử
Light doesn’t need permission to exist.
01 Entering life
Every gesture, every glance, every scent —
is an introduction without words.
Brilliant — because you know your worth
to shine in your own way.
02 Stumble
... “Just showing off.”
It sinks in — something in the heart freezes,
like a thin scratch,
no blood, but a lingering ache.
Turns out...
there are words that can’t break your stride —
but can crack a part of your confidence.
03 Acceptance
Not dimming yourself.
And sometimes...
you have to accept that you are the light.
04 Growing
Still the same, but because you want to be.
The words… no longer touch you.
You are the light.
Observation 17
Penta · No. 17
Cardamom Chai Tea
Trà Chai Bạch Đậu Khấu
Laugh out loud when happy.
Cry when needed.
Love with all your heart — if you happen to fall for someone.
01 Entering life
Work with all your strength.
Love with all your heart.
Laugh with all your might.
And when sad… don’t hide your tears.
Not because of weakness,
but because I believe —
living means giving your all.
02 Stumble
Loving with everything I can.
Doing for… thinking of… —
until I forget that I also need to keep a part of myself.
03 Acceptance
It’s not because of the hurt that I change completely.
But the difference is…
now I know how to keep a part for myself.
04 Growing
Now, I don’t force it anymore.
I don’t push anyone to stay.
I don’t empty myself to gain something uncertain.
Observation 18
Penta · No. 18
Hinoki
Bách Thụ
In a world that’s always rushing, there are values that only grow in silence and steadiness.
01 Entering life
Everyone grows in their own way.
Some choose to run fast.
Some change to fit their environment.
But then, you realize —
everyone has their own rhythm.
And I don’t need to change myself to avoid being left behind.
02 Stumble
And for the first time… I felt lost.
Not because I’m not good enough,
but because no one sees the way I choose to walk —
quietly, steadily.
The first time I asked myself:
In a place where change is the norm,
who still needs unwavering persistence?
03 Acceptance
Some people fit the fast pace.
But me —
I fit with consistency, precision, caution.
As long as I understand why I live this way —
that’s enough.
04 Growing
In a world that’s always moving,
staying true to myself is also a form of strength.
And no matter how much everything around me changes,
I remain steady enough to be myself — in the most positive way.
Observation 19
Penta · No. 19
Jasmine Tea
Trà Nhài
A place to return to —
that’s enough peace already.
01 Entering life
The first time getting on the bus late at night,
carrying a backpack and a long day that never had a chance to breathe.
No one sees me off,
only myself and a small empty space…
just enough to call it a beginning.
02 Stumble
Only the sound of the bus running steadily and my heart...
unstable, yet no longer panicking.
Maybe, that’s a very unique kind of peace:
creating a place to come back to.
03 Acceptance
Home isn’t a place full of noise.
It’s the place where I know for sure there will be a light waiting —
even if I come back late, even if I don’t give notice.
Just knowing…
that when my heart is tired,
I have a place to quietly return to.
04 Growing
No longer feeling small among the lights that pass by the window.
I only feel light.
Because I know...
there is a place to return to — that’s enough.
Just knowing that,
when the bus stops,
there will be a quiet space called home waiting for me to step down.
Nineteen observations. One theme. An open series.
Try. Stumble. Accept. Grow.
